Lesson 6 – Key takeaways
The preparation and knowledge a community group has of its local area can positively impact the success of an emergency response. Working with others in the community as well as categorised responders is essential to achieve effective community resilience. If you are already involved in a group or want to learn more about volunteering as a community resilience group, you can find more information on the Ready Scotland website.
The key takeaways for this module are:
Preparation is key when considering how emergencies will impact a community. It is really important to think about the skills and resources of a community and the risks it faces before an emergency occurs.
Work with responder organisations. Community resilience groups are an essential part of response and recovery when working with categorised responders including local authorities, the NHS and emergency services. Resilient community groups are connected with local responders, a connection which can begin with the Local Authority.
Connecting with other community groups in the local area will result in a better emergency response. Link up with other community groups in your area to support each other, reduce duplication and support local businesses. Work together for the benefit of your community overall.
Community groups should work safely and sustainably, consider what can be done now and how support for the community can grow and develop over time.
